Enter three measurements and read your size on the international charts, the label an Indian tailor or shop would use, and which number to trust when you fall between two sizes.
One inch is 2.54 cm. Indian size labels and most tailors think in inches; European charts and every Silai measurement sheet use centimetres.
It places each of your three measurements on the international body measurement chart (the same one on our body measurement chart page), then applies the rule tailors and pattern makers use: tops and dresses are sized from the bust, skirts and trousers from the hips, and the waist is the tie-breaker. When your three numbers land on different rows, the calculator tells you so instead of averaging them, because an average is the size that fits nowhere.
For women it also reads across to US, UK and EU sizes; for men it gives the chest-in-inches label that Indian kurta, sherwani and shirt makers use, which is simply your chest measurement rounded to the nearest even inch.
Buy the larger size for anything fitted through the hips and the smaller for anything that will be belted or taken in. Better still, have the piece stitched to your numbers: the reason custom clothing exists is that most bodies do not fit on one row of any chart. There is no standard behind S, M and L. Each brand fits its own model and target customer, and many add vanity sizing, so a garment labelled 32 at the waist often measures 84 to 86 cm at the band. The chart behind this calculator is an average across many brands; a particular brand can sit a full size either way, so use the result to choose between two sizes on that brand's own chart, not to skip it.
